Baking cakes

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Tomorrow is the big day, first day of shooting in SA.
First thing is a restaurant breakfast scene where one of the actors is getting a piece of cake. But, no cakes prepared yet Karel asked me, FIR International to the rescue.
Spend 4 hours decorating cakes, 3 black forrest cakes, 2 chocolate granace cakes, 2 fake (plastic casing) merinque pies, a chocolate icing cake and a buttercream chocolate cake.
Tomorrow at 6 in the morning I have to finish the toppings.
Thats another job than I was hired for, but lots of fun, and a bit of set-dressing as well because the kitchen is brand new and needed some treatment as if it is used for a while.
I will be very busy from tomorrow so this blog will be updated when I have the time and with 12 hour working days on set that will be a challenge.
So that’s it for now, more later.

Every day good food

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

It is not a secret at all, Thea our host and George her son who actually lives in Boston USA are taking very good care of us.
Yesterday there was a nice Wilbert goodbye party at  Agate terrace (the beach where we caught the crayfish).
A big bonfire, drinks, food, nice people and Thea who is just throwing big peaces of meat (rumb) on the red hot coals.
Can you imagine when you wake up the next morning and everything starts all over again. We had a BIG breakfast with grilled sausage and braaipap and cooked banana with mint.
Cast and crew from other lodges where invited too, it was an incredible Sunday morning. Now it’s time to relax I’m going to watch some movies and listen to music.
I’m getting much better now, everybody at home no worry’s I will hang in there.
A pity that I have to miss my lovely Nessie for 2 months, but there is one good thing. When I get home and feel better I can start smoking the best Cuban cigars she is bringing back from Cuba for me.
That is a nice little Sunday thought.

Day off

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Today I took a day off, relax, getting better.
I must say it works, a bit of sleeping taking some pictures with my new camera. One of my very good idea’s.
Tonight I’m going to cook simple pasta al’olio, George bought some crayfish (not again 🙂 ) and Anet  & Ulla are buying some local beef which is very good.
What to do with it we do not know yet, we are going to have a sort of braai Thea style, straight on the coals.
Keep on  checking this blogg for the juicy pictures.

My New Camera

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

So my boss Jeremy Hattingh convinced me that it would be better for me that I can take plates and stills with the same kind of camera he had. He bought one for me second hand and it became a Canon 20D with double battery etc.

I was so used to take little quick snaps with my Sony T-3 now I have to carry a 2 kilo monster with me.

And as you see it is always very difficult to take a picture of yourself.

Yesterday I had another apointment with Dr. D. O’Mahony.
And today I had to take some Xray’s of my chest, conclution:
Pneumonia.
So, with some anti-biotic I will be better pretty soon.
Dus voor de familie, ze hebben longontsteking bij mij geconstateerd en met antibiotica moet ik daar weer snel vanafkomen.
Het is dus even afwachten. Xray my lung

What the hell is feeling better?

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Every morning I wake up and think MMMMM I’m feeling better.
But when I come down here at the outspan I start coughing again so loud that I have muscle cramps.
So I SMS’d my lovely doctor Irene Licht who responded very quick, Codeine and as a final killer if nothing seems to work I can take some prednison, difficult to get with no recipe in Holland but here you just as at your local drugstore and they have heaps of it.
I will start with that from today. Because it is starting to hurt.
Thanks again Dr. Licht.outspan skyline

Dr. D. O’Mahony

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Yesterday I felt sick again in the evening, and we made an apoint ment with dr. mahony in PSJ.
After a through examine he said I just pick up one of the flews around the area. Advice, stay in bed with a bottle of brandy and take some parasetamol.
The advice I always get from Rob Becker, now I heard it from a real proffesional 🙂
This morning was much better although I had fever at night and was sweating like a pig. And I ate food again, lost some weight though(not for long).

Feeling much better

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Well my Sunday night fever was a tough one.
I was shaking like a Parkinson person for over an hour in bed and was incredibly warm.
Now it’s Thursday the crew is back from Uganda, Catrien is back from Holland and on top of that the sun is shining after a week of cold and heavy rain. I’m in the office right now  answering my mails I feel better.
Tomorrow Richard Claus is coming back from Uganda and then serious work have to be done.A Guy in Lesoto
